August Meeting Recap

Despite a martial arts body slamming workshop in the room above us, we had a great time filled with tunes.

Our next meeting will be October, 8th 2-5pm at the Phinney Community Center.

If you know anyone who isn’t receiving meeting invites, or you know someone who wants to be added to the mailing list, please give us a shout at hello@irishpipersclub.com.

Workshops & Concerts

Celtic Arts Foundation Winter School

The Celtic Arts Foundation recently opened up registration for their annual music workshop in Seabeck, WA. There will be four days of uilleann pipe instruction, as well as scottish pipes, fiddle, piano, and guitar instruction. You can learn more here! CAF Winter School

Uilleann & Smallpipe workshop

You can still sign up for the Celtic Arts Foundation’s Autumn Smallpipe & Uilleann workshop. I know some us play more than just Irish pipes, but in recent years Fred Morrison has added a day for Uilleann pipes at this workshop as well. Head here for more info! Tannahill Weavers

And one more thing from the CAF! The Tannahill Weavers will be in Mt Vernon this November.

Bits & Bobs

I stumbled upon this fantastic recording of a Liam O’Flynn concert televised sometime in c.1971. The video quality is pretty bad, but the audio is fantastic. He’s got some great stories about the tunes he plays. Have a listen!

Here is complete tune list compiled by one of the commenters:

Keeping with O’Flynn, I recently stumbled upon a documentary series produced by the Irish Traditional Music Archive. The ITMA is a fantastic organization that also produced the Goodman Collection books. In one of these episodes Louise Mulcahy (another talented piper) explores the Liam O’Flynn Collection at the ITMA.

Bandcamp Finds

A friend shared this incredible album with me recently and I can’t stop listening to it. Its entirely Pipes, Banjo, and Bouzoki. Recorded live between November 2022 and April 2023 at the Ennis Trad Fest, Tionól Nioclás Tóibín, The Crane Bar in Galway, and Maureen's Pub in Cork City. The piper for the album is Padraic Keane and he’s got his own solo album which you can find here: In Full Tune - Padraic Keane

And if you’re a fan of Blackie O’Connell, he just drop this album with Cyril O’Donoghue and it’s rockin’! Packed with all the high octane speed and energy you’d expect from Blackie.

That’s if for this month. See you all in October!
